10:34 pm - Sooooo... my "Music in American Cultures" professor taught us about Civil Rights era music last lecture (I get to listen to James Brown and Bob Dylan for class? Um...SCORE). He integrated the national election into the lesson hahaha ("Movements like this made Obama's election to president possible!") in addition to state propositions ("Amendments made after the Civil War gave African Americans legal rights...unlike OTHERS that discriminate against minority groups to take away their fundamental liberties.")
On election night students took to Berkeley's streets in impromptu celebrations. Nobody was hurt, it was all just pure, non-violent jubilation. It was incredible.
Got a front-page article published Thrusday. Newspaper stresses me out, but daaaang that was pretty much one of the proudest moments I've had in awhile.
Today a floormate and I just looked out of our floor's balcony to see the sunset over the bay. Streaks of color, arching clouds, and silhouetted mountains, all framing the bay and the Golden Gate.
I really don't think I'll ever stop loving this place. :) Current Music: I Feel Good~James Brown

12:06 am - :) My first day on the Daily Californian newspaper staff is tomorrow! HOORAY! I just couldn't let go of journalism.
I love the girls on my single-sex floor. I especially love our extra clean bathroom on our single-sex floor haha. Plus, we can always chill with boys on level 8 and vice versa. New friend Tony brings down his MarioKart anyways.
Speaking of distraction, freakin Anisa has the complete 5th season of Law & Order SVU. Which she lent me. So goodbye studying. Forever. On the bright side, my history prof does look like Elliot Stabler on the show....
Mmmmm still haven't ventured into SF (note: not San Fran, totally not cool). Need to do that. But there's always things going on here.
I've decided to try new things and have therefore embraced opportunities to: Go to a Nine Inch Nails Concert See the bay and the Golden Gate bridge from my friggin window Go to an Athletics-Angels baseball game Receive slightly lecherous comments from homeless men SWING DANCE. Although that's still on the to-do list Get a tie-dye printed library card Do ridiculously fun GO BEARS cheers Start pillow fights. Epic fail. Try to krump. See pillow fight for results.
PS: I swear, I'm still studying. Kinda. Hahaha.
College is a blast. The end.

01:37 pm - Japanese History!!! "At this time [Izanagi] asked his spouse Izanami, saying: "How is your body formed?" She replied, saying: "My body, formed though it be formed, has one place which is formed insufficiently." Then Izanagi said: "My body, formed though it be formed, has one place which is formed to excess. Therefore, I would like to take that place in my body which is formed to excess and insert it into that place in your body which is formed insufficiently, and [thus] give birth to the land. How would this be?"
Izanami replied, saying: "That will be good."
Pick up line if I ever heard one. Hahaha but interesting! Hope your reading's as amusing.

09:53 pm It's definitely looking like Cal. And you know what? I'm really excited. Even though I always envisioned myself going east to a private school. Strange how things change.
I've had ups and downs the past week, but why wallow in sorrow when you can look on the brighter side? I have both an aunt and fabulous friends in the Bay Area (cough Steph cough). There's the boy in my life whom I love and if things continue on so blissfully, I will be able to keep in touch with him so much more. There's the half-cost bonus and the fact that Berkeley is the friggin top public university in America, if not the world. I have one more quarter of high school to enjoy, complete with Yosemite, Prom, and graduation.
Wow Leslie, as if you had anything to worry about in the first place.
Sometimes forcing optimisim really does cheer you up. :) Current Mood: Content

11:56 am - FINAL LIST (If you still care) This is actually helping me sort out my thoughts too...
ACCEPTED (aka the YAY schools)
Cal Berkeley UCSD UCSB Tufts University of Richmond
WAITLISTED (aka the just-make-up-your-mind school)
Princeton
REJECTED (aka the go-crush-my-spirit-schools)
Brown Williams
Any thoughts or advice would be helpful. Right now, I'm leaning towards Cal/Tufts with the possibility of staying on Princeton's wait list just for the hell of it. Sighhh this is so surreal.

01:48 pm I hate Calculus. The thing that kills me is that I’m getting a C (if I’m lucky) and I’m ACTUALLY TRYING REALLY HARD. But people will just look at the transcript and think I fell victim to senioritus. Fair? I think not.
I’m into three schools that I don’t especially see myself attending (UCSB, UCSD, U o Richmond) and can only wait for the other decisions to roll out. I am, in a word, powerless. It’s horrible.
Things will get better, I know. I hope. This is more just a therapeutic blaaaaaaaaah right now.
Thanks for caring. Current Mood: Down Current Music: I'm in Econ.

04:49 pm - February 25th Resolutions Yeah, I know New Year's is past. But I feel like I can and should work towards some goals in the upcoming months. Writing them down makes me feel like I've prioritized.
So listed (in no particular order):
1) Get in shape - although I did not pass out during my first Yosemite workout, the experience still left a lot to be desired. I've been telling myself for months that I'm gonna work harder to be (more) physically fit. Now I have the perfect excuse/method to do so.
2) Don't burn out - I refuse to get lazy! I will not fall victim to senioritus! And I will not let my GPA drop lower than a... 3.0 this semester. Hahahaha ok. Mainly I just need to make sure my work ethic remains intact and that I do homework blah blah blah
3) Don't be apathetic - I still need to care about the important things! Like Tiger! And..Tiger!
4) Go to bed earlier - Seriously, turning in at 10pm would be so good for me. Why do I mess around for that extra hour? WHY???
5) MOST IMPORTANTLY: Hang out with the loves/friends/people who make my life worthwhile: That should be most easy to accomplish.
Anyhoo, sorry if that was a waste of your time. To make up for it, I highly recommend this clip:

(I haven't even seen "There Will Be Blood" and yet I still thought this was hilarious)

11:58 pm So today I found out that if I get an A on the AP Calc final, I'll get an A in the class.
For the past three years, this type of news would INSPIRE me to STUDY HARD and GET THAT GRADE.
Hahaha now it's more like...awwwwuh, WHY DO I HAVE TO WORK???
Oh senior year, how I love thee.
Not an incredibly engaging update, but I felt I needed to post.
My life's pretty AMAZING right now, hope yours is too. Let me know! Current Mood: Bouncy

09:41 pm Survived the busiest week of my life (Board Meeting, Tiger coming out, Back to School Night, Club Rush, Tennis Matches, Committee meetings, etc).
Why, yes, I think I can do this. Maybe.
Royal Ball was way fun for me. Let's get more of that for the remaining eight months of high school (gulp).
Totally calm about college: only applying to 8 schools including 3 UCs. Let's hope this doesn't backfire on me.
I'll miss all of my buddies DITCHING me for MH OSS. Have fun you guys!

June 14th, 2007
08:15 pm Nobody ever told me that becoming a senior was like this.
Sure they said it was exhilarating, powerful, even a relief like FINALLY I'm at the highest visible point.
Yet I got out of my last final and felt empty. That was before I became terrified.
It's surreal and unnerving and strange, this place. I've always had people to look up to, friends who have taught me so much everyday through their experience, wisdom, and generosity.
Not only do I feel not ready to reciprocate that gift to the younger classes, I'm desperately wishing I could still hold onto my status as a relative baby on campus.
Seniors, you guys will be missed. No matter how cliche the phrase seems from continuous repitition, I feel that this is true now more than ever. As I watch you graduate tomorrow I know that when you gain your diplomas I'll lose so many daily sources of comfort, strength, and accountability. Which is pretty selfish of me to think, I guess. So I guess I should honestly add that I'm all proud and happy for all of you for every single contribution you've made, no matter how mundane.
I don't know if the fear will go away as time wears on. I don't know if I'm a freak and the only one who's combating these emotions. All I can hope is that I will make some of the influence on others as you have all left on me. Current Music: Blackbird~Beatles
